Locations of Goa

Goa is the smallest state of India located on the Western coast of the Indian peninsula. The location of Goa is such that it shares its borders with Maharashtra towards the north and Karnataka in the south. The mighty Arabian Sea lies to its west. The geographical location of Goa is between Latitude 15°48'00" North to 14°53'54" North and Longitude 74° 20'13" East to 73° 40'33" East. Due its location near the sea, Goa experiences maritime climate which makes it the perfect for a vacation.

The location of Goa near the sea was favorable for the Portuguese to set up one of the most prosperous trade links in Asia. Goa was known for its spice plantations and exotic spices. This was exported by the Portuguese to countries in north and South East Asia. Also, Goa had a natural Harbour which made it all the more easy for the ships to dock here. One can see the Harbour located in Mormugao, Vasco da Gama which is one of the major port trusts of India.

The location of Goa is such that the Western Ghats flank it along the coast. The Western Ghats are the perfect location for the wildlife sanctuaries and provide the perfect getaway for nature enthusiasts to spend time with nature. The beaches are the most popular getaway for tourists and the water sports provided here are a hit among locals and tourists. The ideal location of Goa also makes it possible to reach this state easily.

A poet once described the physical shape of Goa as one half of a heart, the other half being carried in the very heart of every Goan. The Sahyadari Ghats hover protectively to the east of Goa where the height of this coastal state rises to 1022 mts above sea level. The Arabian Sea laps at Goa's long Western coastline. Several rivers criss-cross the state and empty into the Arabian Sea.

Main Beaches - Arambol, Mandrem, Morjim, Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute, Sinquerim, and Miramar are major beaches in the North with Majorda, Betalbatim, Colva, Benaulim, Varca, Cavelossim and Palolem in the south.

Wildlife Sanctuaries - Bondla, Mollem lie in the eastern forested hilly areas of the state.
